Strange experience using VA Gold status on Singapore Airlines
I had a very strange experience using the benefits of my VA gold status on Singapore Airlines yesterday (economy ticket purchased on on the SIA website, but I put in my VA number when checking in). Here's what happened over the course of 12 hours...
1. The boarding passes said "VA KFLY", which is confusing because these are two different programs and also doesn't indicate what status I have on either
2. There was no "lounge access" or "priority boarding" printed on the boarding pass, but the check in staff at Brisbane assured me I would have these
3. The boarding group printed on my boarding passes was "5" which is about the last group they board
4. Bag tags printed out "priority" as expected
5. At the excellent Singapore lounge in Brisbane the staff quickly let me in but at the lounge in Singapore the staff said there was no lounge access available and I had to have a long discussion with them and show my VA Gold card
6. At BNE, the boarding staff told me to go to the regular boarding line but let me enter the priority line when I explained the situation. At SIN the boarding staff were pretty aggressive about me not having priority boarding but then a supervisor overheard the conversation and let me board
It was almost amusing how complicated the whole thing was. I think the lesson is to know what benefits you are entitled to because sometimes the systems get messed up.

Sounds like standard confusion between SQ and VA. Also you can't book seats in advance if booked through the SQ site with VA FF number?. Full details however of what one is entitled to iOn the VA site, print it and show I think.

I had the same experience long time ago when I was at the Brisbane airport... still the same as before - since 2010! It is not strange experience, that's normal.

Maybe but the question is....why is it the norm?
Just something else that makes VA somewhat amateurs even when flying with their so called partners.
